How to calculate take-home salary in India?

Your take-home salary (Net Pay) is calculated by subtracting statutory deductions and income tax from your Gross Salary.

1. Gross Salary

This includes Basic Pay, HRA, Special Allowance, LTA, and other earnings.

2. Statutory Deductions

  • Employee PF: Usually 12% of Basic Salary (capped at ₹1,800/month for many, unless voluntarily higher).
  • ESI: Applicable if gross is below ₹21,000. Employee share is 0.75%.
  • Professional Tax: A state-level tax ranging from ₹0 to ₹208/month (₹2,500/year cap).

3. Income Tax (TDS)

For FY 2025-26, the New Tax Regime is the default. It offers a standard deduction of ₹75,000. Under the new regime, income up to ₹12 Lakhs is tax-free for most salaried individuals after deductions.
