Designing an onboarding that reduces attrition

The first 90 days decide the next 900. Here's the framework.

Pre-boarding is half the battle

Send access, welcome kits, and Day 1 clarity before the joining date. New hires who receive a structured pre-boarding email within 48 hours of offer acceptance are 60% more likely to show up on Day 1.

The 30-60-90 rhythm

Day 30 is about belonging, Day 60 about contribution, Day 90 about ownership. Codify goals, buddy check-ins, and manager 1:1s at each milestone.

Learning by shipping

Assign a real, small deliverable in the first two weeks. Nothing accelerates confidence and network like a shared win.

Measure the leading indicators

Track time-to-productivity, buddy meeting completion, and pulse scores at Day 15 and Day 45. Waiting for exit interviews to learn is a losing strategy.
